Chapter Two
A New Threat
A low-pitch buzz interrupted his train of thought. He reached upward and positioned the visor down over his widespread eyes. When in place he then activated the visor's built in communication system, called a vis/view.
Instantly, his field of vision came alive with colorful im…

I was asked to appear on CBC’s Dragons Den (for more info on this, see my previous post). I actually wrote a little article about it for the local paper a few years back, and I will post that excerpt here. Looking back, it wasn’t a very good article, but I wasn’t much of a writer back then. I was into WEBSITES! (As this is from 2007, I will inject future Shelly in brackets wherever I feel necessary)
Within 1 month I had a request from CBC to appear in the den itself. Seized by fear, I asked mys…

Between the Passionate Shepherd
and the Nymph
To live with thee is not the case
With pleasure prove and fearless face
The shepherd tongue may look like hay
But hills and fields … might move the May.
Though truth thy saiths: grow cold the rocks –
From field to fold time drives the flocks
And nightingale can change to swarm –
From sunny zone the rain must come…
From noisy swarm the honey comes;
From silent snake, the sorry comes.
The youth shall fade and love shall fold
Stepper on…

In the dark, as if my eyes are closed
I feel the wind slipping around me
The roar of the beast as it soars away
It spat me out, he's done his part
Entangled in the web, below is above
The silk is whipping, it struggles to maintain
No air to keep it floating, and I've got no say
I close my eyes, prayer on my lips, and wait
The cold rush burns my skin, falling faster
I grind my teeth, eyes closed so hard
A tear finds its way to the surface
Sliding randomly, no idea which way is down
How far mus…

I am a devotional writer. I wanted to share my blog with you guys and let you see how I am progressing. I am still very new at doing all of this but it has become my greatest challenge to write! I have enjoyed doing it for as long as I can remember. I started out trying to write lyrics. However, that never really went anywhere. Then I recently discovered God gave me a calling as a devotional writer. I have found that it has touched people in many different ways. I always love to hear their stori…

REPOSTED FROM THE RETIRED BIKER HOUSEWIFE BLOG: FRIDAY, OCTOBER 23, 2009
I recently signed on to participate in the National Novel Writing Month (“NaNoWriMo”) and November is the month it happens. For as long as I can remember, I’ve had a compelling urge to write and it never waned. Even as a 38 year old grandmother with a son just entering high school I…

A Tribute to My Mother Margaret Ann Gray 1931-1996
When we lose a loved one it is a tragedy in itself, but when we lose a loved one and we are estranged it is even more difficult and painful.
I lost my mother in 1996 and we were estranged two years because she was an alcoholic. I blamed her for our problems, but I was just as much at fault. I didn't make an effort to reconcile.
I feel guilty that she didn't know I was sorry or I forgave her.
I wrote this piece to share with all who have l…

When I look back on it all, it just seems a blur, his seduction, my total submissiveness, and then the bite. For what seemed hours I was lost in it, not able to fight, not able to breathe, nothing. I did not exist except in his arms. Sasha had left, seeking new prey of her own, not before giving me the look. She was defeated, and she knew it, I could see it in her expression, because I too had once worn that face. Just once mind you. Around us time slowed as Jonas slipped his arm around my frame…

Off to War, we go.
March tall, fight fierce, scare them all.
Shed blood, ours or theirs.

I want to sing a melody, to relieve stored up domestic working pressure, but my tongue is suddenly knotted. The sun is obstructed by the dark cloud that catches it. The maple leaves happily whirl and dance with satisfaction in the breeze. The sky fills with fresh hazy air beautifully, gently. After yoga, I want to arrange a garland to greet the marvelous adventure of a foreign morning, but the fantastic flowers ar…

“It’s all planned, Friday morning we are shopping.” My husband flipped open his laptop after hearing Charley Gibson announce, courtesy of ABC’s Nightly News, the American economy needs shoppers. Yitzhak clicked “the google” and national sale and shopping buzz affecting our area of the country burned like a beacon of opportunity in his dimly lit office.
It will be a mad…

Men and women in Taiwanese society share some similar cultural realities, but they have very different roles. In many countries, including Taiwan, there are some disparaging issues between men and women. To begin with, some countries, by law and by custom, continue to regard women as “nonpersons.” Based on my personal experience in Taiwan, married women still did all the housework, even if they had a job. Furthe…

The actual writing time was maybe an hour, which is a long time for me. It took a lifetime to build it. And yes this is still in first draft mode, but I will be cleaning it up in the days to come, as I plan to read it in Boulder, at as yet, an unknown venue, but most likely the Burnt Toast on Wed. nights. They start reading between 8:00 and 9:00 pm. Will keep you all posted!
Peace out
Michael

As he looked at the photographs of his children(they would always be "His babies."), he…

William Bradford (1590 – 1657)
At heaven shore a grower died
And left alone a little bird
With many land and million crops
With careless kin the rooster fled.
And made the sweat of corpse in vain.
As Scrooby there he joined the stain…
That tagged themselves the Puritans –
To Holland fled because of cane ….
The pilgrims moved like slippery dove
To Plymouth where they peaceful move…
- Established church above the king -
He worshiped there and ruled with love…
For distinct cares h…

Be still...
how can I be still
with the riot
of noise in my head...
all clamoring for my attention...
Be still and know...
know what?
the fear of being alone, of being
the outcast,
of the thousand eyes
on me...
Be still and know that I am...
who are you?
in my sheol I search for you,
in the prison of my mind
I cry out for you ...
yet the noise tells me
it just falls on deaf years...
that your back is turned...
Be still and know that I am...
God. The noise is muted,
and your unseen presence
em…

I'm not really sure where it's going to go... started working on it a couple of years ago, then the whole 'Twilight' thing happened, and I didn't want to fall into the 'just another Vampire novel' black hole. Here it is... it's not much...
I was not just bitten, I was made... Not just another victim for them. At first I was prey, then I became passion, then obsession. To Jonas I was the sweetest elixir running through his veins the moment my blood touched his lips. That first night I fought him…

In the story I'm writing, I'm writing from the viewpoint of various characters, but also parts of the house, especially because they're infused with the aura of the people who live in it. Some parts of the house are infused more than others. The ones that are less infused are less humanized, and though it's tempting to make them humancentric, it's more interestingly challenging not to.
