Annette, it has really helped me stay focused. There's a whole lot more that goes into a writing career than just getting the pages done. This helps me remember all the steps I take toward my goal.

I like the idea of using a planner that way - recording what I have done instead of it telling me what to do. That is something I could actually make a habit!

Right now I'm on about page 215 of my science fiction thriller, and that's a good thing. It always seems that around page 175 I start to want to work on other projects. It's not writers' block. It's not that there is something wrong with the curre...

When I work with these students who struggle so hard to string coherent paragraphs, I really do feel blessed. I understand their frustration thought because I have the same struggle when it comes to math.

That's okay, Janice. The other aspects of my life explode. It all evens out!

Maria, you are something I really wish I was... organized! I have a dayplanner... I forget to use it... all. the. time! My desk looks like a paper and box factory exploded on it. I set up a system that 'works'... only to find out later that it's a...

Wow, that really is true. It is easy to take writing for granted. I will think of this today as I sit down to do what I love! Stacie

Lisa, okay we know what life-sized figure you want. Ryan, I'm with you. I just want to know what the sock fairy does with all the socks she steals. Hmmm maybe another story is coming....

Hey - this is too funny, but yet so mutual... Kansas Girl here has got the ruby red slippers out in the land of OZ if anyone would like to borrow them.. As for inspiration - all I need is that quaint little log cabin settled at the base of at leas...

That sock thing is so true. I just look at it this way: if I'm wearing shoes, who's going to notice?

I'll settle for the Ruby Slippers and the Troll! Thank you for making me smile on what was going to be a rather grey day. :o)

Awesome! Although, instead of cat... can we train my oversized puppy? Otherwise I'd be too busy sneezing and rubbing my eyes to get any writing done...

Teaching My Muse Responsibility

Right now I'm on about page 215 of my science fiction thriller, and that's a good thing. It always seems that around page 175 I start to want to work on other projects. It's not writers' block. It's not that there is something wrong with the current WIP. It's that I'm at the halfway point and my muse wants to play...with other books. So not fair, right? Of course I do have a way around this. I have a new Sojourner book that I am so dying to write. Of course I won't start it until I finish this o… Continue

Being Thankful Also Includes Gratitude for the Writing Life

I know the title probably sounds strange, but if you are like me, you never really think much about the opportunity or ability to put pen to paper and get those words out. The simple fact is that this one part of your life is something you should be thankful for as well.

I teach a lot of remedial students, and the one thing I've realized is that while writing seems to come easily to me, (okay easily after years anyway) it doesn't work that way for a lot of people. They don't understand the basi… Continue

It's Always Something

There are a lot of people out there who say they would like to write novels if they only had the time. The funny thing is that I don’t have any more time than anyone else. Life doesn’t willingly give you time for your passions. You have to prioritize and work to get time. And you have to know how your time is spent.

The year I finished four novels and co-wrote three scripts. No, I don’t have some super writing power. How I wish I did. No, I’m not retired. No, my children, all three of them, are… Continue

Nothing can ever be easy can it? With trying to market 20 books and write and blog, plus kids and working long days, holy cow, I really don't know how you do it. I'm glad you've had a good day for Sojourner, **blushing** I'm glad your happy with your artist, now she just needs to get her head back on her shoulders and finish the next one.

Thanks for commenting on my blog, editing my cookies....Apparently, I need to edit my blog more carefully, or I'm not wearing any parents!! Writing does affect our life, and life our writing....at least for most writer's that I know! I read your blogs and visited your website. What an amazing amount of work you've done! I'll be watching for more from you!!

Thankya! I probably should have mentioned that I still need to learn some grammar, but I guess I'll fake it for now. As for your students, they'll probably get better in time. Or is it gooder? I can never remember.

Hi, I don't know why but summers are always tough on me when it comes to writing, maybe it's because there's so much else to do to distract me. I'm looking forward to the cold that Winnipeg brings and darkness falling at 5pm.
I have to say, I envy how quickly you seem to get through your mss. I'm such a perfectionist sometimes I think I'm my worst critic. I change my mind so much that just getting the fist draft done is painful. If only I could get over the fact that the first draft doesn't need to be perfect and just write to get the idea on paper...but I can't. Maybe its because I'm questioning the story line.
Anyway, I'm not giving up.
What are you working on now?
